Private buses in the State will soon be fitted with Public Information System and Global Positioning System as part of a modernisation drive. The initiatives are being undertaken by the Private Bus Operators Federation.
Electronic ticketing system was introduced in 100 private buses in the city on Sunday. The system will help in proper accounting for the bus operators.
The bus operators have also announced gifts for travellers using the e-tickets.
In the first phase, the e-ticketing system is being introduced in Aluva, Perumbavur, Angamaly, Piravam, Muvattupuzha, Paravur and Tripunithura. Later, it will be extended to other parts of the State.
Launching the system, Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar sought the support of the private bus operators in making the State free of vehicle accidents. Each year, around 4,000 lives are lost in around 40,000 accidents that take place in the State, he said
The Minister launched the system by handing over an e-ticket to Hibi Eden, MLA.
Dominic Presentation, MLA, P.A. Sainudeen, Deputy Transport Commissioner, T.J. Thomas, Regional Transport Officer and M.B. Satyan, president of the federation were also present at the function.
